Tec 40
Description
Tec 40 is the first certification in technical diving. Technical diving allows divers to explore beyond the traditional limits of recreational diving. Technical divers learn how to use advanced equipment and techniques to extend their bottom time and depth limits. Since this diving is beyond the recreational limits, it can be unforgiving and requires additional training, equipment, and dedication.
What You Will Learn
While completing the Tec 40 course you will be learning how to use advanced equipment to dive beyond the recreational limit of 40 meters/ 130feet. Also included in the course is learning specialized techniques using nitrox to accomplish decompression diving.
- Use decompression software and dive computers to plan and make decompression dives with no more than 10 minutes of total decompression and not deeper than 40 metres/130 feet.
- Use a single cylinder of decompression gas with up to 50 percent oxygen (EANx50) to add conservatism to the required decompression.
Learning Materials Required
Tec 40 crewpak, which is included in class price, includes a manual, dive planning checklist and dive planning slate. The optional Equipment Set-up and Key Skills video on DVD is a great tool to help you practice at home in between your Tec diving adventures. You'll continue to use the Tec Deep Diver Crew-Pak through Tec 50.
Prerequisites
- Be a PADI Advanced Open Water Diver (or hold a qualifying certification from another organization)
- Be a PADI Enriched Air Diver (or hold a qualifying certification from another organization)
- Be a PADI Deep Diver (or hold a qualifying certification from another organization)
- Have a minimum of 30 logged dives, of which at least 10 dives were made with enriched air/nitrox deeper than 18 metres / 60 feet.
- Have a medical form signed by your physician

Tec 45
Description
Tec 45 is the second step in technical diving certification. Technical diving allows divers to explore beyond the traditional limits of recreational diving. Technical divers learn how to use advanced equipment and techniques to extend their bottom time and depth limits. Since this type of diving is beyond the recreational limits, it can be unforgiving and requires additional training, equipment, and dedication. The Tec 45 class builds on the knowledge gained during the Tec 40, allowing you access to new depths. After certification you will be able to make decompression dives to 145 feet/45 meters, opening up new diving possibilities.
What You Learn
In the Tec 45 course you will learn how to use new skills and equipment to dive safely beyond recreational limits to a maximum depth of 45 meters/145 feet. You will also be executing a decompression dive with one cylinder of nitrox/enriched air to either accelerate your safety stop or add conservatism to your decompression hang. This course will further prepare you for predictable diving emergencies that you will encounter as a technical diver. You will also be mastering the basic skills that you’ll need as you descend into the depths of technical diving down the road.

Tec 50 as the third certification draws on the knowledge that you learned in the previous two courses allowing you to further extending you maximum. After certification you will be able to make decompression dives to 165 feet/50 meters using two gases, nitrox/EANx and 100 percent oxygen, to make your decompression more conservative.

What You Will Learn
In the Tec 50 course you will refine your technical diving knowledge from Tec 40 and Tec 45. You will also train in the motor skills needed to safely dive beyond recreational limits to a maximum depth of 50 meters/165 feet. You will be executing decompression dives with one cylinder of nitrox/enriched air to either accelerate your safety stop or add conservatism to your decompression hang. This course will further prepare you for predictable diving emergencies that you will encounter as a technical diver.
